My parents, around 4 years ago, bought a caravan and wanted to travel up and down the UK visiting our beautiful country, but needed to find disabled friendly caravan sites. My older brother has Downs Syndrome and they wanted to make sure they stayed at sites which were disabled friendly. They would spend hours searching the internet for the most suitable sites.

So I decided, with my knowledge, to build this site of suitable places to visit. Initially it started out as a list of sites they had visited but after demand, I expanded it to all suites which are suitable.

There are many types of disability, some which may require different facilities. We have tried to keep it a bit more general but with the aim to specify on pages who it’s suitable for.

My parents have never let my brother’s disability affect any of our holidays from our childhood to now.

They have often been left frustrated by the lack of properties or breaks that include fancy extras like a hot tub but are also disabled friendly. My brother is lucky as he can walk, but if you are wheelchair bound the choice is even more limited.

As mentioned, I started this site to help my parents find more sites to explore more of the UK. Whether that is holiday properties with hot tubs or amazing scenery. It would take them hours to try and filter through hundreds of properties and sites before they found all the cottages which was suitable for disabled people but also featured some the facilities they wanted.

I thought it would be brilliant if there was one site which incorporated them all, and the idea for Disabled Family Breaks was born.

Disabled Family Breaks provides just that, everything you need for a fabulous holiday with the whole family, including places to visit and explore.

We are a small group based in Yorkshire who are passionate that everyone, no matter if they have a disability, should be able to have a wonderful holiday.

Our aim, which is simple, is to provide you with any answers in relation to going on holiday with someone with a disability.
